    Plant Care Tips

Garlic is best planted in the fall when the rains have returned in October and November. To plant, separate garlic cloves from bulb. Prepare your garden area with compost and clear weeds. Plant cloves about 8 inches apart with the root side down and pointy tip up. Sow cloves about 1-2 inches deep. Sprouting should occur in about 3 weeks. Add a layer of mulch. Normal precipitation should take care of most watering needs. In the early spring start weeding and top dress with compost or fertilize. As garlic grows, stay on top of weeds and irrigate as needed. For hardneck varieties, snap scape in the the spring when it curls over. When stalks start to dry, cut water for last 2-3 weeks. Harvest when stalks are drying up and test bulbs have papery wrappers. Allow garlic to cure in a well ventilated space for 3-6 weeks out of sunlight.

    What Our Customers Are Saying

“Redwood Seeds is always my first choice, go to seed company, not only because I don’t want to support big agribusiness through my seed buying, but because their varieties are thoroughly superior, in climate resiliency, taste, and output. Their seed is among the many reasons I home grow…you just can’t get most of their heirlooms from the store.  I may not be monetarily rich- but I eat like a queen thanks to Redwood!

"Just wanted to thank you for your super wonderful lettuce seeds that have produced an incredible crop in our Arizona winter garden! Jericho is a definite favorite, but the Concept & Drunken Woman are running very close behind!! They're all so perfect for our wraps & salads. Neighbors just can't believe it!"

    Susan, Verified Customer

"Hi we had great success with the Chinese red beans from your seeds this year! Super prolific, fast growing, high yield. Very fun to watch growing from our over head trellis and made it easy to pick all the beans! Will grow again next summer and increase the amount I plant!"

    Celen, Verified Customer

"I really enjoy your seeds. As a Small Humboldt County California Farmer, I love being able to get seeds from nearby. All of the varieties I have purchased have produced very well. I get high quality, viable, well cared for seeds. I like that the selection is somewhat limited and straightforward. It makes it easy to choose and I know it will be a strong yummy plant."

    Dayna, Verified Customer

"Year after year, I have been pleased with the quality seeds I receive from Redwood Seeds. I've had consistently excellent germination rates, discovered heat-tolerant varieties that are vital for the Sacramento Valley summers, and I love that they are open-pollinated so that I can save some seed for next year. I am always recommending Redwood Seeds to friends, and encourage novice gardeners to sign-up for Kalan's helpful gardening emails."
