Our Beginnings
There was a time, back in the beginning, when saving seed was hard work. We spent hours hand-cleaning our first batches of lettuce seed, still finding bits of chaff mixed in. We learned the sting of hot pepper seeds in all the wrong places and the numb fingers of scooping squash seeds in November.
Nearly 15 years later, seed saving is still hard work, but we’ve come a long way. Through practice, refined techniques, and better equipment, what once took hours now takes minutes. Farming—specifically seed farming—chose us. Meeting my husband, a livestock farmer by background, and becoming garden-curious in my mid-20s set us on a path toward a rural lifestyle rooted in our ethics and love of the land.

Our Farm
In 2005, we found 40 acres in the foothills of Lassen Peak, California—land that had just been completely burned in a forest fire. With help from a USDA grant, we replanted 11 acres of conifers, many of which thrive today. Powered 100% by solar, we steward this land through carbon sequestration, habitat preservation, and mindful farming practices to protect it for future generations.
Redwood Seeds officially began in 2009 after several years of experimenting and growing for other companies. Today, most of our seeds are grown right here on our farm, with others sourced from other small-scale organic farmers. We specialize in Certified Organic, heirloom, and open-pollinated varieties adapted to diverse climates—from high mountains to hot valleys and coastal regions.
Our farming practices include crop rotation, interplanting, cover cropping, no-till methods, and water conservation. We’re proud supporters of the Open Source Seed Initiative, ensuring gardeners can save and share seed freely.

Why We Grow
We choose varieties for flavor, resilience, and adaptability—seeds that perform beautifully in our Mediterranean climate and beyond. Whether you’re growing in a backyard, a community plot, or on a farm, our goal is the same: to help you grow fresh, healthy, delicious food while preserving seed diversity for the future.
From our garden to yours—thank you for being part of this seedy adventure.
